A quilt for Mom.

My mother is the “Queen” of quilting.  Over the years, she has made many a quilt for friends, raffles and silent auctions.  As far as I know, no one has made one for her.  I decided to change that. I had a nice sized section of pieced fabric that I put together years ago. Simply because I like the prints, and I didn’t want to throw them away. I had no plans for it at the time. I put it with my stash of fabric.

When I decided to make a lap quilt for her, and started searching for the colors of fabric I wanted to use,  I saw this handy work, and said to myself, “this is perfect.”  I just need to add a border or two. Maybe 3, and it will be ready to go!

So, 3 borders later, a layer of fleece for batting, and a backing.    I didn’t actually quilt around the sections. I used embroidery floss on some of the corners. Just to hold the layers steady. I really like how this turned out.

My daughter got married on Mother’s Day this year, 5-12-19.  I purchased a black jumpsuit, per her request.   I really like it, but I wasn’t pleased with the belt that came with it. I decided to make a belt from some scraps of leather I had in my stash. I used eyelets for the first time. I have to say,  it turned out very nice.PICT0008

My creative mojo has been at a stand still for months now. This is not like me, and I wanted to try and give it a jump start. It is a new year! I decided to make a tote for my friend and co-worker who is a big fan of Winnie the Pooh.

This fabric is Burlap, which I am not a big fan. However, it was on clearance a while back,  and super cute.  How could I resist??

I serged, interfaced, and lined the bag. I used belting for the straps. Burlap is not the easiest medium to work with, but I managed.  I am pleased with final product.

I really like ” Monster” themed printed fabric. I wanted to make a random, patchwork type bag, but didn’t really know how big I wanted it. No real plan.  Well, as I dug through my remnants, I found two pieces that would be just right for a lunch bag.  So, I went for it. I also used some “D” rings and belting I found at Thrift Town.

                                                                       I like it!

I have been keeping my daughters mail in a tote bag and delivering it every few weeks. It works fine, but I wanted something different. I had a few scraps of vinyl left over from a project I did a while back, and decided to experiment.  I used a Teflon foot.  It worked pretty well. I am pleased with the final bag. Not too big, not too small.  I will work with vinyl again.

Since the foo foo panties I made for Ansel’s baby sister turned out so cute, I decided to make a reversible vest for him from the same fabric.  I like it.  I think Ansel will as well.

I wish I had more of this fabric!

Little Eleanor, warrior princess, daddy’s clone, was born several weeks ago. Yay!  A girl! Time to sew an outfit for the new bundle of joy.  I like making kids things. They are generally super cute, and don’t require much fabric.  This is what I decided to do.  A jumper for when she is toddling.  Foo foo ruffly panties for right now.  : – )

Karen and I were talking recently about how much we hate our work aprons. They get dirty very quickly, and no one looks nice in them.  We are allowed to wear ones we make as long as we use fabric sold in the store.  Well, she asked if I would make one for her if she bought the fabric. Of course, I will. Soon after, Karen purchased a yard and quarter of cotton licensed fabric, and we were good to go.

Susie recently moved to an apartment. She has a fouton in need of a fitted sheet. She asked me if I would try to make one. Well, her knowing me as well as she does, knew I would take the challenge.  I already had a fitted sheet that was close to the dimensions, and the corners cut. I went with it.  😉

I think it looks pretty good. She is pleased!

I recently made a baby blanket, which was a “quilt” of sorts. I am not a quilter, but I  have been playing  with the process. I decided to give it another shot.  I tore all the pieces, machine stitched them, and hand stitched the border. I used batting this time. I tied the corners with embroidery floss. I didn’t want to hand quilt the whole blanket. More hand sewing than I like to do.  I realized that batting hides a lot of imperfections. I like that.  Still a learning process.  I don’t know if this will be a regular thing for me, but it has been interesting.
